Profile Tolerance of Surface

Profile of a Surface is the condition permitting the amount of profile variation, either unilaterally or bilaterally, on a surface.

The tolerance range is the range contained between the two enveloping surfaces formed by a sphere with diameter t, the centre of which is situated on the theoretically correct profile surface.

The considered surface shall be contained between the two enveloping surfaces formed by a 0.02mm diameter sphere, the centre of which is situated on the surface containing the theoretically correct profile.

The tolerance zone established by the profile of a surface tolerance specified is three-dimensional, extending along the length and width (or circumference) of the considered feature or features.

Profile of a surface is probably the most powerful geometric tolerance control in the entire geometric tolerancing system. It can be used to control the size, form, orientation, or location of a feature.
